Determines eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges, and for admission to PhD.
Eligibility
- Qualification: Master's degree (or appearing) with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/transgender).
- Age: not more than 30 years for JRF (with relaxation); no upper age limit for Assistant Professor.
Exam pattern & selection
- Paper 1 (100 marks · 50 questions)Teaching & Research Aptitude — reasoning, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness. Common to all candidates.
- Paper 2 (200 marks · 100 questions)The candidate’s chosen subject. Both papers are taken together in a single 3-hour session; 2 marks per correct answer, no negative marking.
Selection: A single 3-hour computer-based test (Paper 1 + Paper 2). Qualifying grants eligibility for Assistant Professor and/or JRF and PhD admission.
